Equality

Equality begins with the recognition that every human being possesses inherent worth. The Human Constitution explores our right to equal human dignity while recognizing that people differ in abilities, experiences, opportunities, backgrounds, perspectives, responsibilities, and circumstances. Equality does not mean sameness. It means recognizing the value of every person while navigating the realities of human diversity. The Human Constitution also explores our relationship with power. Every person has a right to personal power, physical power, and monetary power, and a responsibility to use those forms of power with integrity. Throughout life, individuals learn to navigate differences between women and men, younger and older generations, different cultures, backgrounds, and life experiences. Through Istima, equality becomes an ongoing process of learning how to balance individual dignity, opportunity, responsibility, and cooperation. The goal is not to eliminate differences but to ensure that human worth remains visible despite them.
