Access to information supports learning, participation, accountability, transparency, and informed decision-making. At the same time, societies often balance openness with considerations such as privacy, security, stability, and cultural values. The Human Constitution explores our right to access information that affects our lives and our responsibility to use that information wisely and responsibly. Through Istima, freedom of information invites humanity to navigate the relationship between knowledge, power, trust, and responsibility. Information alone does not create wisdom. In fact, access to increasing amounts of information may sometimes create confusion, polarization, or misunderstanding. The deeper challenge is learning how to transform information into understanding, understanding into wisdom, and wisdom into actions that support dignity, cooperation, and human flourishing.
