Peace is often understood as the absence of war, but lasting peace involves much more. It includes trust, cooperation, dignity, opportunity, justice, and healthy relationships between individuals, communities, and nations. The Human Constitution explores our responsibility to contribute to conditions that support peace at every level of life. Through Istima, peace becomes an active process of learning how to navigate differences without dehumanization, how to balance power with responsibility, and how to create relationships that allow people and societies to flourish together. Peace is not passive; it is a continual practice of maturity.
