Principle 1 Body

What does the Body principle help us notice?

Right — To health, safety and physical integrity.

Responsibility — To care for our own body and respect the physical integrity of others.

In practice: Our body is how we experience and participate in life. Caring for it means attending to needs, respecting limits and seeking help where needed and possible. We also need to respect how others want their bodies treated. Responsibility for health sits within circumstances we do not fully control, including working conditions and access to care. Illness, disability and dependence never reduce human worth.

For example, when someone offers physical help, we can explain what assistance is welcome and what we prefer to do ourselves.

A question to sit with (optional): What does my body need, and which conditions make that care possible or difficult?
