Grief
How can I make room for grief without being told how to grieve?
Grief may bring sadness, anger, relief, numbness or feelings we cannot name. There is no feeling you have to produce to show that a loss matters. You may want to talk about the person or what has changed, repeat a memory, sit quietly or have some time alone.
Those offering support can ask what is welcome and listen without searching for a positive explanation. A meal, help with a task or unhurried company may be what is wanted today. Some parts of grief need a human presence that a page cannot provide. You do not owe anyone a lesson from your loss. Responsibilities may continue, and some can be shared while you find your way.
A question to sit with (optional): Would I like company, space, a chance to talk or help with something practical today?
