Wisdom

What makes judgment trustworthy while our understanding is still developing?

Wisdom involves bringing knowledge, experience and reflection into judgment with care for context and consequences. It means becoming trustworthy in the presence of uncertainty: acknowledging what we do not know while responding to what is clear enough. Later understanding may reveal where an earlier interpretation was incomplete, so wisdom also requires openness to evidence and correction. It can be expressed through action, patience, a boundary or asking for help. Its value lies in how it shapes our conduct, including our responsibilities toward other people and life.

Wisdom can also be knowing when an explanation would get in the way of listening. We can stay attentive to a person without pretending to know what their experience means for them.

A question to sit with (optional): What has experience helped me understand, what remains uncertain, and what response can I stand behind now?
