Critical Thinking
How do I examine a claim fairly, including one I want to believe?
Begin with the exact claim and the evidence offered for it. Consider the source, context, uncertainty and plausible alternatives. Disagreement alone does not make evidence evenly balanced, and confidence alone does not make a claim reliable. The framework invites the same care for claims that support our identity as for those that challenge it.
A question to sit with (optional): Would I accept this evidence if it supported the opposite conclusion?
