Happiness
How can I make room for happiness without making it a duty?
Happiness can be found in pleasure, connection, play, achievement or a quiet moment that asks nothing of us. We can notice what brings enjoyment and make room for it, while recognising that circumstances and feelings change. Reflection can help us distinguish what nourishes us from what we pursue out of expectation or comparison. Joy belongs in life alongside difficulty. It is neither a permanent duty nor something a particular person owes us.
There is room to share delight without apologising for it. If someone brings us good news, we can give that moment our attention before comparing it with another life or moving to the next task.
A question to sit with (optional): What brings genuine enjoyment, and what pressure am I placing on myself or someone else to feel happy?
