Hope

How can hope support action without becoming a promise?

Hope may be easy to feel at one time and difficult to reach at another. You do not have to sound hopeful to deserve company, care or practical help. Someone can stay interested in your life without insisting that you see a brighter side.

Hope gives us room to care about a possibility without knowing whether it will happen. It can support an act of care, a commitment or the patience to explore. Reflection helps distinguish a possibility worth supporting from a promise we cannot honestly make. We can ask what remains within reach and who might help, while allowing grief and uncertainty their place.

A question to sit with (optional): What would feel supportive now, even if hope is difficult to reach?
