Prosperity

How would we recognise prosperity beyond a larger total?

Prosperity can include material security, opportunity, time, meaningful participation and a living environment that can sustain them. People may weigh these differently, so we need to say what we mean by a flourishing life or society. A larger total of income or assets does not tell us how benefits and burdens are shared. Responsible decisions examine whose life is improving, what makes that improvement possible and whether its costs are being passed to other people, other life or the future.

A question to sit with (optional): What is improving, for whom, and at what cost to others or the future?
