How can we offer protection while making reception workable for everyone affected?

Seeking protection can involve uncertainty about safety, family and the possibility of building a life again. People deserve to be heard about what matters to them, with privacy, language support where needed and room to decide what they share. A person is more than the account they may be required to give in a formal procedure.

Refugees, asylum-seekers and internally displaced people have different situations and legal categories. Fair assessment, practical support and opportunities to participate need clear responsibilities across institutions and communities. Capacity requires planning and cooperation. It does not determine anyone's human worth, and listening should help practical needs and personal choices be understood.
