Religious Freedom

How can people practise or reject religion while sharing a society?

Faith or a worldview may be closely connected to someone's meaning, family and belonging. Religious freedom includes room to practise, question, change or reject belief, while respecting others' freedom to do the same. We can seek understanding across differences without requiring agreement. Respect for a person leaves room to examine practices and institutions when they affect other people's rights. Specific legal protections and limits depend on the jurisdiction and need their own examination.

When someone speaks about faith or a change in belief, we can first ask what it means in their life. That conversation may concern comfort, loss or belonging before it concerns an argument about doctrine.

A question to sit with (optional): How can I live by my convictions while protecting another person’s freedom to choose differently?
