Responsibilities
How do I know what is mine to take responsibility for?
Responsibility may arise from an action, a role, a commitment or the power to prevent harm. It should be considered alongside knowledge, freedom and capacity. It includes a willingness to reflect on our choices and respond as their consequences become clearer. We may need to acknowledge something we did not understand at the time, seek feedback or make repair. Taking responsibility does not mean controlling every outcome or carrying another adult's choices. Institutions also have duties that cannot fairly be passed to individuals. Equal human worth can coexist with very unequal responsibility.
A question to sit with (optional): What belongs to me here, and has later understanding revealed anything I need to acknowledge, change or repair?
