Dignity & Rights and Responsibilities

Rights and responsibilities work together to support dignity. Rights help protect individuals from harm and establish boundaries that recognize human worth. Responsibilities help sustain the conditions that allow people, communities, and societies to flourish. The Human Constitution explores both. Through Istima, humanity continues learning that freedom without responsibility can become destructive, while responsibility without freedom can become oppressive. Dignity emerges most fully when rights and responsibilities are held in balance.
