Retirement

What changes when paid work is no longer the centre of life?

Retirement can open questions about how we want to use our time, sustain relationships and carry forward what we have learned. It may also bring uncertainty about income, identity or circumstances we did not choose. Reflection can help us recognise what to retain, release or explore. Participation might involve care, friendship, interests or contribution in a new form. It need not become another achievement, and practical security and support remain important whatever someone chooses.

An ending can deserve acknowledgment even when a new phase brings welcome freedom. Talking with someone who listens may give room to what we miss as well as what we hope to explore.

A question to sit with (optional): What do I want to retain, release or make room for in this next phase?
