How do I recognise someone's worth when our roles or views differ?

A role tells us something about a person's responsibilities, but little about the whole person. A cleaner, customer, leader or opponent can be taken seriously without receiving the same authority in a particular decision. Everyday dignity includes explaining decisions, avoiding needless humiliation and making room for a response. Disagreement does not remove those considerations.
